IPL 2026: Ruturajs Continued Struggles Raise Concerns for CSK

Chennai, April 14: In the 22nd match of IPL 2026, held at the MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced off against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s poor form persisted, as he was dismissed for just 7 runs after facing 6 balls.

Ruturaj’s ongoing struggles have become a significant concern for CSK this season. In five matches, he has averaged only 12.6, scoring a mere 63 runs with a strike rate of 105. He has yet to surpass the 30-run mark, with his highest score being 28.

Alongside Ruturaj, the opening partnership has also been a major headache for CSK. The duo of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj has managed to cross the 50-run threshold in just one match. Together, they have accumulated only 124 runs at an average of 24.8 across five innings.

This season, CSK’s opening pair has recorded the lowest batting average, significantly impacting the team’s performance. So far, CSK’s results in IPL 2026 have been disappointing, with only one win out of four matches, while suffering three losses. However, they did secure their first victory of the season against Delhi Capitals (DC) in their last match.

Under Ruturaj’s captaincy, CSK triumphed over Delhi Capitals by 23 runs. Batting first, CSK posted 212 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 20 overs, while DC was bowled out for 189. This match marked the first time CSK’s bowling attack showed good form in IPL 2026, with Jamie Overton taking 4 wickets for just 18 runs.
