IPL 2026: Ruturajs Continued Struggles Raise Concerns for CSK

Chennai, April 14: In the 22nd match of IPL 2026, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced off against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s poor form persisted in this match, as he managed only 7 runs off 6 balls before being dismissed.

Ruturaj’s ongoing struggles have become a significant concern for CSK this season. In five innings played, he has averaged just 12.6, scoring a mere 63 runs with a strike rate of 105. Notably, he has yet to cross the 30-run mark in IPL 2026, with his highest score being 28 runs.

Alongside Ruturaj, the opening partnership has also been a major headache for CSK. The duo of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj has only surpassed 50 runs together in one match this season. Across five innings, they have managed to accumulate just 124 runs at an average of 24.8.

The opening pair’s dismal performance has heavily impacted CSK’s overall results. The team has had a disappointing run in IPL 2026, winning only one out of four matches played, while suffering defeats in three. However, CSK did secure their first victory of the season against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in their last match.

Under Ruturaj’s captaincy, CSK defeated the Delhi Capitals by 23 runs. Batting first, CSK posted a score of 212 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 20 overs, while the entire DC team was bowled out for 189 runs. This match marked the first time CSK’s bowling attack showed good form in IPL 2026, with Jamie Overton taking 4 wickets for just 18 runs.
