
Chennai, April 14: Noor Ahmad, a 21-year-old spinner for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has made headlines in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by becoming the fifth player to take 50 wickets in the fewest matches. The Afghan bowler achieved this remarkable feat in just 42 games.
In a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, Noor bowled 4 overs, conceding only 21 runs while claiming 3 wickets. He now holds a total of 52 wickets in IPL history, boasting an impressive average of 23.75. Notably, he has also taken 4 wickets in an innings on two occasions.
In this match, CSK secured a 32-run victory, marking their second win of the season. After losing the toss and opting to bat, CSK scored 192 runs while losing 5 wickets.
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad partnered with Sanju Samson to add 25 runs for the first wicket. Gaikwad was dismissed for 7 runs, after which Samson collaborated with Ayush Mhatre to score 47 runs in just 22 balls for the second wicket.
Mhatre contributed 38 runs off 17 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 6 fours, before Samson and Dewald Brevis added 39 runs in 32 balls, pushing the team past the century mark.
Samson scored 48 runs off 32 balls, including 3 sixes and 4 fours, while Brevis added 41 runs off 29 balls with 6 boundaries. Sarfaraz Khan chipped in with 23 runs. For KKR, Kartik Tyagi took 2 wickets, while Vaibhav Arora, Anukul Roy, and Sunil Narine each claimed 1 wicket.
In response, KKR managed to score only 160 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Ramdeep Singh was the top scorer for KKR with 35 runs off 23 balls, while Rovman Powell remained unbeaten with 31 runs off 22 balls. Sunil Narine contributed 24 runs, and captain Ajinkya Rahane added 28 runs. Angkrish Raghuwanshi scored 27 runs. Noor Ahmad was the standout bowler for CSK, taking 3 wickets, while Anshul Kamboj took 2 wickets.
