Bournemouth, April 14: Premier League club AFC Bournemouth has confirmed that head coach Andoni Iraola will leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season, concluding a successful three-year tenure on the south coast.
In a statement, the club noted that Iraola’s arrival marked a period of consistent performance in the Premier League. Notably, during the 2024-25 season, the team achieved 56 points, setting a club record. This impressive performance secured them a ninth-place finish, their joint-best ranking to date.
Iraola is known for his aggressive and modern playing style. He has not only improved the team’s gameplay but also played a crucial role in developing both young and experienced players. Under his coaching, the team has established a distinct identity. Additionally, the club’s fitness coach, Pablo de la Torre, will also depart after the 2025-26 season.
Following this decision, AFC Bournemouth chairman Bill Foley spoke on Tuesday about Iraola’s impact and the successes achieved together over the past three years.
He stated, “Andoni has played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of this football club over the last three seasons. He brought enthusiasm, innovation, and a clear vision that elevated AFC Bournemouth both on and off the pitch. We are immensely grateful for his leadership and the wonderful memories of our time working together, as well as everything we have achieved.”
The club’s head of football, Tiago Pinto, expressed his respect for Iraola, both as a head coach and as a person. He remarked, “Andoni is someone I hold in high regard. His attention to detail, strategic understanding, and ability to get the best out of players have been evident every day. We have witnessed player development under his coaching, not only here at AFC Bournemouth but also in some of Europe’s top leagues. Clearly, we respect his decision and thank him for everything he has done for this football club over the past three years.”
