Chennai, April 15: In a disappointing turn of events for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the team faced a 32-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 22nd match of IPL 2026. This loss marks KKR’s fourth defeat of the season, and it has now set a disheartening record.
For the first time in IPL history, KKR has failed to secure a single victory in their first five matches. So far this season, KKR has played five matches, losing four and drawing one. Chasing a target of 193 runs at MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, KKR managed only 160 runs, losing seven wickets in the process.
Finn Allen was dismissed for just one run, while Sunil Narine scored 24 runs off 17 balls before being caught by Khalil Ahmed. KKR’s captain, Ajinkya Rahane, also struggled with the bat, returning to the pavilion after scoring 24 runs off 17 balls. Ankur Raghuwanshi failed to capitalize on a good start, getting out after scoring 27 runs off 19 balls.
Rinku Singh had a quiet outing as well, contributing only six runs. Cameron Green was dismissed without scoring. Rovman Powell managed to score 31 runs off 22 balls, and Ramandeep Singh added 35 runs. Together, they formed a partnership of 63 runs for the seventh wicket but could not lead the team to victory. Noor Ahmed shone with the ball for CSK, taking three wickets for just 21 runs, while Anshul Kamboj claimed two wickets.
Earlier, CSK scored 192 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. Sanju Samson was the standout performer, scoring 48 runs off 32 balls, while Ayush Mhatre contributed 38 runs off 17 balls. However, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad managed only seven runs. Dewald Brevis scored 41 runs off 29 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes, while Sarfaraz Khan added 23 runs off 18 balls.
