Defending Champion Gauff and World No. 1 Sabalenka Lead French Open Entry List

New Delhi, April 15: The main draw entry list for this year’s French Open has been announced, featuring nearly all of the world’s top-ranked players. Out of the top 101 players in the WTA rankings, 100 have confirmed their participation in this prestigious clay-court tournament.

Defending champion Coco Gauff returns to Paris after winning her second Grand Slam title on this very court last year. She will be joined by former champions Jelena Ostapenko, Iga Swiatek, and Barbora Krejcikova, making the tournament draw exceptionally strong.

Four-time champion Iga Swiatek will be eyeing her fifth title. In the Open Era, only legends Chris Evert and Steffi Graf have achieved this milestone.

Several Grand Slam winners are also contenders for their first Roland Garros title, including world number one Aryna Sabalenka, current Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina, as well as Naomi Osaka, Madison Keys, Emma Raducanu, Marketa Vondrousova, and Sofia Kenin. Among these, Sabalenka, Vondrousova, and Kenin have previously reached the finals in Paris.

Recent finalists like Karolína Muchová and Jasmine Paolini are also on the list, aiming to take their performance a step further this year. Other Grand Slam finalists include Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova, Leylah Fernandez, and Zheng Qinwen.

The presence of top-ranked players like Elina Svitolina, Mira Andreeva, Belinda Bencic, and Elise Mertens adds even more depth to this tournament.

Among the young players, 18-year-old Austrian talent Lily Tagger stands out. After recently breaking into the top 100, she has earned a direct entry into the main draw. Her inclusion marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first player since Fernandez to gain direct entry into the main draw after winning the girls’ singles championship at Roland Garros. Ukraine’s Daria Snigur, ranked 101, is the last player to secure a direct entry and will now compete in all four Grand Slams. The only player missing from the top 101 is France’s Varvara Gracheva, who is sidelined due to a foot injury.

Several players have also utilized ‘protected rankings’ to gain entry, including Anhelina Kalinina, Jill Teichmann, Sara Sorribes Tormo, and Danka Kovinic. The 128-player main draw will be completed with the addition of eight ‘wild cards’ and 16 ‘qualifiers’, setting the stage for a highly competitive second Grand Slam of the season.
