Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Alert for Chhattisgarh; Red Alert Issued for Balod

Raipur, September 25 (Udaipur Kiran News): The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain and strong winds in Chhattisgarh today (Thursday). A red alert has been sounded for Balod district, while nine districts are under orange alert.

According to officials, a new low-pressure area is forming over the Bay of Bengal, which could intensify rainfall activity in the state over the next 24 hours.

Districts under orange alert include Raipur, Gariaband, Dhamtari, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Kanker, Bijapur, Narayanpur, and Mohla-Manpur. These regions are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes.

In addition, yellow alerts have been declared for parts of Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district, with warnings of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall.

In the past 24 hours, several parts of the state received intense rainfall. Raipur recorded about 45 mm of rain, while Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district received the highest at 106.3 mm. In one incident, a car was swept away while trying to cross a flooded stream, but all three passengers managed to save themselves by swimming to safety.

The continuous downpour has led to a sharp fall in temperatures, with Raipur recording a maximum of 25.8°C and a minimum of 24.5°C, around 7 degrees below normal. The heaviest rainfall in Raipur was noted at Mana Camp (77 mm).
