Accra, October 13 (Daily Kiran): Ghana secured their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Comoros 1–0 in their final qualifying match on Sunday. With this victory, Ghana have qualified for the World Cup for the fifth time, reaffirming their status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.

Despite needing just a draw to advance, Ghana adopted an aggressive approach right from the kickoff. Comoros, who had handed Ghana their only defeat in the qualifiers earlier, put up a strong fight and came close to scoring in the third minute. However, the first half ended goalless.
The decisive moment came early in the second half when Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus struck in the 47th minute, sending the crowd of nearly 35,000 fans in Accra into loud celebration.
With this win, Ghana topped Group I with 25 points, securing direct qualification to the World Cup. Madagascar finished second with 19 points, followed by Mali with 18 points, while Comoros, Central African Republic, and Chad ended with 15, 8, and 1 point, respectively.
Ghana have previously featured in the 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022 World Cups. Their best-ever performance came in 2010, when the team reached the quarter-finals, narrowly missing out on a semi-final berth after a dramatic loss to Uruguay.
The Black Stars’ latest qualification marks another proud moment for Ghanaian football and a new chapter as they look to make a strong impact at the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
