Mumbai, April 29: The IPL 2026 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is set to take place this Wednesday evening at Wankhede Stadium. However, it remains uncertain whether former MI captain Rohit Sharma will participate in the game. His injury has compounded MI’s challenges this season.
According to a source close to MI, “Rohit has shown continuous improvement, but a decision regarding his participation against SRH will be made at the toss.”
Rohit Sharma has been absent from MI’s playing eleven for the last three matches due to a hamstring injury. In his absence, the team has experimented with various opening combinations, but none have proven successful. The consistent failures of the openers have significantly impacted MI’s performance. In the last two matches, Danish Malewar was given a chance alongside Quinton de Kock, but he did not deliver. Thus, Rohit’s fitness and readiness to play have become crucial for MI.
Rohit started the season with an explosive half-century against Kolkata Knight Riders but had to retire hurt in the fourth match due to injury and has not returned since. In the four innings he played this season, he scored 137 runs, including one half-century.
If Rohit is declared fit and returns to the playing eleven, he could largely resolve the opening issues alongside de Kock.
MI’s performance this season has been disappointing. The team has struggled due to injuries to key players, along with underwhelming performances from captain Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah. Currently, MI sits ninth in the table with only two wins from seven matches, totaling four points. To secure a playoff spot, the team must win all remaining matches, which will not be an easy task.
