New Zealand Announces Squad for Womens T20 World Cup 2026, Featuring Debutants Nancy Patel and Izzy Sharp

New Delhi, April 29: New Zealand has officially announced its 15-member squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to take place in England from June 12 to July 5. The announcement also confirmed that experienced players Sophie Devine, Lea Tahuhu, and Suzie Bates will retire from international cricket following the tournament.

Under the leadership of Amelia Kerr, key players from the 2024 championship-winning group have been retained, with 10 members from that team making the cut. Newcomers Nancy Patel and Izzy Sharp have been included, both of whom are uncapped players. At just 21 years old, Izzy Sharp is the youngest member of the squad. Bree Elling, Polly Inglis, and Devonshire will also make their T20 World Cup debuts.

Head coach Ben Sawyer expressed confidence in the team and emphasized the significance of this moment for both debutants and departing veterans.

Sawyer stated, “Congratulations to all selected players. Being chosen to represent your country on the world stage is an honor, but the World Cup holds immense importance. This is a special time for Izzy and Nancy, as it is their first World Cup.”

He noted the team’s recent form as a positive sign, with seven wins in their last eight T20 matches.

He added, “It’s a rare and special opportunity for our three senior players to conclude their careers in the same tournament. All three have had remarkable careers and have contributed significantly to this team and the sport in general. At the end of the tournament, we will have time to recognize and celebrate them, but I know they are focused on performing well in their final mission with the team.”

Sawyer believes the squad is well-balanced, combining experience with exciting young talent. “We have worked hard to deepen our batting over the past 12 months, which was evident in our recent home series against South Africa and Zimbabwe. Our pace bowling has also been outstanding.”

New Zealand is placed in Group 2, alongside England, Ireland, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.

The New Zealand Women’s Team for the T20 World Cup includes: Amelia Kerr (captain), Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Flora Devonshire, Izzy Gage, Maddie Green, Brooke Holiday, Bree Elling, Polly Inglis, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Meyer, Nancy Patel, Georgia Plimmer, and Izzy Sharp, and Lea Tahuhu.
