Udaipur, August 1: With the pause in rainfall, inflow into Udaipur’s lakes has also come to a halt. On Thursday, the gates of Swaroop Sagar and Udai Sagar lakes were closed. Meanwhile, Fatehsagar Lake continues to wait for substantial rainfall, with only 2 to 3 inches of inflow recorded through the Madar canal so far. The lake is yet to overflow this monsoon season.

The gates of Swaroop Sagar Lake, which had been opened on July 20 following the filling of Pichola Lake, were shut on Thursday after 12 days, as inflow gradually decreased due to reduced rainfall. Similarly, the gates of Udai Sagar Lake, which were opened on Sunday, were closed on Friday after five days.
While some light drizzles were reported in Udaipur city on Thursday afternoon, there has been no heavy rainfall in recent days, causing concern among residents and delaying the overflowing of lakes. Despite predictions of heavy rain, both the city and its catchment areas continue to wait for substantial downpours.
Fatehsagar Lake had earlier been filled up to 10.5 feet using water from the link canal, but inflow from the Madar canal has been minimal since then, measuring only 2 to 3 inches. Currently, the water level of Fatehsagar stands at 10 feet 4 inches — still 2 feet 8 inches short of its full capacity of 13 feet.
The Sisarma River is currently flowing at a speed of 2 feet, and due to reduced rainfall, the water level in Pichola Lake has also receded slightly to 10 feet 6 inches. Authorities have left a margin of half an inch in Pichola, considering the continuing inflow from Sisarma.
