Chandigarh, 01 September (Kiran News). Floods in Punjab have claimed 29 lives so far, with over 2.56 lakh people affected across 12 districts. As per official reports, 15,688 people have been rescued and shifted to safer locations. The state has set up 129 relief camps to immediately accommodate homeless families, where 7,144 people are currently staying.

Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian released a status report on Monday evening in Chandigarh. He said large-scale relief operations are underway in the affected districts. According to district-wise data, 15,688 people have been safely evacuated, with major evacuations in Gurdaspur (5,549), Firozpur (3,321), Fazilka (2,049), Pathankot (1,139), Amritsar (1,700), and Hoshiarpur (1,052).
Currently, 7,144 people are accommodated in relief camps across the state, with the highest numbers in Firozpur (3,987), Fazilka (1,201), Hoshiarpur (478), Pathankot (411), and Gurdaspur (424). The state has set up 129 camps, including in Amritsar, Barnala, Fazilka, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Mansa, Moga, Pathankot, Sangrur, and Patiala.
Floods have affected a total of 1,044 villages across 12 districts, with the highest number in Gurdaspur (321 villages), followed by Amritsar (88), Kapurthala (115), Hoshiarpur (94), Fazilka (72), and others.
As per reports from district commissioners, a total of 2,56,107 people have been affected. Gurdaspur has been the worst hit with 1,45,000 people impacted, followed by Amritsar (35,000), Firozpur (24,015), Fazilka (21,562), Pathankot (15,053), SAS Nagar (7,000), and Kapurthala (5,650).
Relief and Rescue Operations
The state has deployed Indian Air Force and Army helicopters (about 35 in total) for rescue and relief efforts. Ten teams from the Air Force, Navy, and Army are actively engaged, with eight additional teams on standby. NDRF has deployed 20 teams across affected districts. Additionally, 114 boats and one state helicopter are being used in rescue operations. BSF units are also assisting.
Casualties and Agricultural Loss
From 1 August to 1 September 2025, 29 deaths have been reported across 12 districts due to floods, including three each in Amritsar, Barnala, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, and Mansa, and six in Pathankot. Three people remain missing in Pathankot.
Floods have also caused major damage to agricultural land, with a total of 94,061 hectares affected. The most affected districts are Amritsar (23,000 ha), Mansa (17,005 ha), Kapurthala (14,934 ha), Tarn Taran (11,883 ha), and Firozpur (11,232 ha).

Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian assured that food, medical aid, and essential facilities are being provided at all relief centers. The state government continues to coordinate with various agencies to manage the situation and assist the affected population.
