
New Delhi, March 5: Finnish President Dr. Alexander Stubb met with President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. During the meeting, President Stubb emphasized the strong ties between India and Finland, noting that India views Finland as a valuable and reliable partner.
President Stubb expressed his delight in learning that the India-Finland relationship has evolved into a dynamic partnership driven by key pillars such as innovation, clean technology, education, and economic cooperation.
Earlier, President Stubb shared his thoughts during a joint press briefing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, praising the Prime Minister’s diplomatic skills.
He stated, “India is one of the largest and most influential countries in the world and the largest democracy. As we have seen, you are now a key strategic partner for Europe. You are one of the fastest-growing economies globally, which we can witness here every day.”
Prior to this, Prime Minister Modi engaged in bilateral discussions with President Stubb at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations. Several MOUs were signed during this meeting, marking a significant step towards enhancing trade, investment, and technical cooperation between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi remarked that their growing collaboration is paving the way for new achievements in development and shared prosperity. The historic FTA agreement reached at the beginning of 2026 will further bolster trade, investment, and technical cooperation between India and Finland. Both countries are important partners in areas such as digital technology, infrastructure, and sustainability.
He highlighted that Finland’s contributions have connected millions of Indians through Nokia’s mobile phones and telecom networks. With the collaboration of Finnish architects, the world’s highest railway bridge has been constructed over the Chenab River. Additionally, Finland’s partnership has led to the establishment of the world’s largest Assam Bio Ethanol Private Limited (ABEP) refinery in Numaligarh, Assam.
