Finn Allen Sets Record with 24 Runs in a Single Over During IPL 2026

Kolkata, April 2: Finn Allen, the explosive opener for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), showcased his batting prowess on Thursday against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In a thrilling display, Allen scored 24 runs in the very first over bowled by David Payne, placing him joint second in the list of most runs scored in the first over of an IPL innings.

Chasing a massive target of 227 runs, KKR began their innings with a bang, scoring 25 runs without losing a wicket in the opening over. Captain Ajinkya Rahane took a single off the first ball, setting the stage for Allen, who hit two boundaries on the next two deliveries. He then cleared the ropes for six on the fourth and fifth balls, finishing the over with another four.

Yashasvi Jaiswal currently holds the record for the most runs in the first over of an IPL innings, having scored 26 runs against KKR while playing for Rajasthan Royals in 2023. Prior to him, Prithvi Shaw had also scored 24 runs in the first over against KKR while representing Delhi Capitals in 2021.

In this record list, Yashasvi Jaiswal appears again, having scored 22 runs in an over against Punjab Kings in 2025. Naman Ojha (21 runs against KKR in 2009) and Sunil Narine (21 runs against Rajasthan Royals in 2018) also feature in the top rankings.

In the match, after losing the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad batted first and managed to score 226 runs, losing 8 wickets. Heinrich Klaasen contributed significantly with a quick 52 runs off 35 balls, while Abhishek Sharma added 48 runs and Travis Head chipped in with 46 runs.

From the bowling side, Blessing Muzarabani took the most wickets, claiming 4, while Vaibhav Arora secured 2 wickets. Kartik Tyagi and Anukul Roy each took 1 wicket.
