Guwahati, April 2: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal launched a sharp attack on Congress, stating that the large crowds at election rallies in Upper Assam indicate that the public has rejected the party’s “failed and divisive politics.”
While campaigning in support of Bolin Chetia in Sadiya and Taranga Gogoi in Naharkatia, Sonowal noted that the enthusiasm of voters reflects their growing trust in the BJP-led NDA government’s model of peace, stability, and development.
Addressing a rally in Dangri, Sadiya, he accused Congress of historically neglecting remote areas, resulting in a lack of infrastructure and opportunities. He claimed that Congress’s policies have undermined the rights of indigenous communities, citing the controversial IMDT Act as an example.
Sonowal stated, “People have not forgotten decades of neglect and injustice. Today, they are coming out in large numbers to support a government that ensures development, stability, and accountability.”
He further asserted that the voters’ response indicates a shift away from “old politics” towards prioritizing development, connectivity, and employment.
Continuing his campaign in Naharkatia, Sonowal addressed gatherings in Mahamora and Kamargaon, claiming that the NDA’s development agenda has gained widespread acceptance across all sections of society.
He remarked, “The tremendous public support we are receiving clearly shows that the BJP-led alliance is strong and unchallenged in this region. People have rejected Congress’s politics based on corruption, neglect, and division.”
Sonowal emphasized that the NDA government has ensured lasting peace and rapid development in Assam, contrasting it with the instability and uncertainty during Congress’s rule. He urged voters to provide a decisive mandate to secure Assam’s future and prevent the return of “misgovernance and neglect.”
