Washington, February 23: A significant security breach involving former President Donald Trump has come to light. Reports indicate that a 21-year-old man from North Carolina was shot dead by U.S. Secret Service agents after he illegally entered Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The suspect was reportedly armed with a shotgun and a fuel can.
The FBI has announced that it is deploying all necessary resources to investigate this incident. The deceased has been identified as Austin Tucker Martin from Cameron, North Carolina.
According to Fox News, the breach occurred around 1:30 AM local time when the suspect entered through the northern gate of the Palm Beach resort while another vehicle was exiting.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw informed the media that the suspect was carrying a shotgun and what appeared to be a gas can. He stated, “I confronted a white male who had a gas can and a shotgun. He was ordered to put down both items, and as he placed the gas can down, he raised the shotgun in a firing position. At that moment, deputies and two Secret Service agents discharged their weapons to neutralize the threat.”
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, no staff from the Secret Service or Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office were injured. The Washington Post reported that the incident took place just inside the estate’s northern gate. Notably, Trump was not present at Mar-a-Lago during the event, preventing any potential harm.
The FBI is conducting the investigation with assistance from local authorities. Brett Skiles, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Miami Field Office, stated that the bureau is reviewing the entire sequence of events and gathering evidence. Authorities have urged residents near the estate to check their external security camera footage for any suspicious activity.
The New York Post later reported that a box for the shotgun was found in Martin’s vehicle. The Washington Post noted that Martin had been reported missing by his family just a day prior to the incident.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt wrote on social media platform X that the Secret Service acted quickly and decisively to neutralize a “deranged individual” who had entered “President Trump’s home” with a firearm and gas can.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the bureau is allocating all necessary resources for the investigation.
This incident raises concerns about security surrounding Trump, especially following previous threats. In 2024, during his presidential campaign, he faced two assassination attempts. In one instance, a gunman fired at him during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, narrowly missing him. Months later, another armed individual was arrested near Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club.
