Chennai, June 20: T.K.S. Elangovan, spokesperson for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), commented on the recent split from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). He stated that the relationship between DMK and IUML has always been positive. “If they have decided to part ways, there is little we can do about it,” he remarked.

In an interview with a news agency, Elangovan emphasized that the ties between the two parties have historically been strong. He noted that the political landscape in the coming days will be crucial to observe.

Elangovan also addressed the tragic suicide of a 19-year-old student preparing for the NEET exam. He pointed out that this is not the first incident of its kind and highlighted the ongoing issue of student suicides linked to NEET preparations. “We have consistently advocated for the cancellation of the NEET exam,” he asserted.

He argued that a student from a poor background, despite performing well academically, often fails to secure a seat in medical colleges, while those who can afford expensive coaching classes succeed. “This creates a double standard where money becomes a means to clear the NEET exam,” he stated. He also raised concerns about NEET paper leaks in northern India, which he believes unfairly benefits students in that region.

Regarding the increase in alcohol brands in the state, Elangovan criticized the government for promoting drinking. He expressed concerns about law and order in Tamil Nadu, citing several recent crimes involving members of the TVK party. “These individuals are disrespecting women and attempting to disrupt assembly sessions to avoid discussions on pressing issues,” he said.

Additionally, he commented on the influx of AIADMK leaders joining TVK and other parties. Elangovan suggested that while this may impact AIADMK, it will not affect DMK, attributing the situation to weak leadership within AIADMK.
