Gandhinagar, August 27: The Gujarat government has extended the deadline for a 100% waiver on penalty interest for beneficiaries of the Gujarat Rural Housing Board’s housing schemes. Eligible beneficiaries now have until January 31, 2027, to pay their outstanding principal amounts and take advantage of this waiver.
This extension follows the first phase of the program, during which 2,988 beneficiaries paid a total of ₹10.57 crore in outstanding principal at 22 recovery camps organized at the district level.
According to the Gujarat Rural Housing Board, beneficiaries have received a total waiver of ₹39.51 crore in penalty interest. The state government had previously approved a plan to waive penalty interest on outstanding installments for beneficiaries of housing projects created under the board’s ‘Hire-Purchase Scheme.’
This initiative includes beneficiaries from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low-Income Group (LIG), Middle-Income Group (MIG), Composite, and Cash Loan housing schemes.
The board stated, “After making the necessary payments, all 2,988 beneficiaries who availed of the scheme were issued loan clearance certificates.”
The state government has now extended the deadline to January 31, 2027, to facilitate beneficiaries and provide additional time for those who could not participate in the first phase. This allows them to settle their outstanding principal amounts and fully benefit from the penalty interest waiver.
Previously, the Gujarat government announced a one-time waiver scheme for rural housing board beneficiaries. The goal of this initiative is to assist eligible families in repaying their outstanding principal amounts without having to pay accumulated penalty fees.
The Chief Minister‘s office stated that this comprehensive scheme aims to benefit over 9,000 rural families.
The Rural Housing Board has urged eligible beneficiaries to take advantage of the extended deadline and complete their necessary payments within the stipulated time.
