Khargone, August 27: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav laid the foundation stone for a grand Panchayati temple at Ekta Dham on Thursday. This project aims to showcase the spiritual philosophy of Adi Shankaracharya alongside the architectural traditions of ancient India.
Accompanied by his wife, Seema, the Chief Minister performed rituals with representatives from the Sannyasa tradition, saints from the Shad Darshan sect, and other dignitaries during a ceremony where 45 sacred stones were worshipped.
The worship ceremony was conducted according to Vedic customs by scholars from the Sri Venkateswara Vedic Science Peetham in Andhra Pradesh, as well as from Karnataka’s South Amnaya Sharada Peetham and Shri Shri Gurukul.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s office, “The Panchayati worship reflects Adi Shankaracharya’s vision of harmonizing various worship traditions. It conveys the message that different forms of worship ultimately lead to the same supreme reality.”
The temple is being constructed in the traditional Nagar style, utilizing approximately 80,000 cubic feet of pink sandstone. The main sanctum will house Lord Shiva, while four auxiliary sanctums dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Sun, Lord Ganesha, and Goddess Shakti will be located at each corner of the temple complex. The main sanctum will feature a Somatilak style shikhara, and the sanctum will be built in the Sarvotobhadra style, with entrances from all four directions.
This temple will boast 100 intricately carved pillars, eight symmetrical structures, and ornate toranas. The main hall will feature a dome with a diameter of 26 feet, making it one of the prominent architectural elements of the complex.
The structure will stand on a 16-foot high Jagati pillar and will be adorned with 121 kalashas. Its exterior will include traditional elements such as Bhadra, Karna, Pratiratha, and Devakostha, along with decorative panels.
The Panchayati system, revived by Adi Shankaracharya, aims to establish harmony among Shaiva, Vaishnava, Shakta, Surya, and Ganapati traditions by recognizing Shiva, Vishnu, the Sun, Ganesha, and Shakti as different forms of the same supreme reality.
The temple at Ekta Dham is being developed as a center for worship as well as a showcase for traditional Indian architecture and sculpture.
