Kathmandu, August 28: The Ministry of External Affairs reported on Thursday that 290 Indians are missing following severe flooding in the Bhote Koshi River. This disaster has wreaked havoc in the Himalayan nation.
The ministry also stated that 63 Indian workers involved in the Trishuli-One project in Rasuwa district have been affected. Among them are 21 individuals from Tamil Nadu who were on a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar.
A list of rescued Indian citizens has been released by the Ministry. The names include Sumit Kumar Khare, Mukesh Kumar, Sachin Kumar, Jaswant Singh, Chandan Tiwari, Devan Kumar Shah, Amarendra Kumar Yadav, Om Prakash Yadav, Sampat Kumar, Neeraj Kumar Thakur, Jai Hansda, Sunil Kumar Singh, Upendra Barnamal, Rahul Kumar Gupta, Neeraj Kumar Patel, Sanovar Alam, Upendra Bhasin, Yogesh Kumar, Mohammad Akram Alam, MD Injamamul Haque, Abhishek Kumar, Abhishek Yadav, Mangal Singh, Pankaj Kumar Shah, Nilesh Kumar, Ashutosh Mankopadhyay, Lakshman Tiwari, and Ganguly Patel.
Other rescued individuals include Indrajit Kumar, Gyan Singh, Jai Krishna, Shah Rukh, Nipinder Mandal, Saddam Hussain, Raj Kumar Tiwari, Alok Kumar Shah, Arun Kumar Shah, Satyendra Kumar Singh, Bittu Kumar, Abed Basumatari, KK Pandey, Abhishek Tiwari, Akash, Pradeep, Ranjan Kumar, Pawan Lodhi, Anil, Vijay Prasad, Narayan Bahadur, Janmejay Singh, Sunil Giri, Roshan Kumar, Vishmar Singh, Suhail Mustafa, Nilesh, Pramod Gupta, Jitendra Ram, Nitesh Kumar Singh, Nijuddin, Kavi Kumar, and Rohit Verma.
Rasuwa and Nuwakot are among the districts most severely affected by the flooding. It is believed that the floods were triggered by an avalanche in the upper reaches of the Bhote Koshi River, which runs along the border between Nepal and China. By Thursday afternoon, Nepal Police reported that a total of 644 individuals are missing, including 517 foreign nationals.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of State has indicated that it is aware of approximately 90 Americans who may be affected by the floods and is closely monitoring the situation. The department confirmed that three American citizens have been safely rescued, and there are currently no reports of American fatalities.
Additionally, a significant number of Chinese nationals are also reported missing following the catastrophic floods in Nepal. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated during a regular press briefing that around 100 Chinese citizens remain missing after a landslide occurred near the Nepalese border on Wednesday.
According to Nepal Police, 127 Nepalese citizens are also unaccounted for. Among the foreign nationals reported missing are 53 Ukrainians, 51 Malaysians, 35 Australians, 33 British, and 25 Canadians.
