Former Minister Gomathi Srinivasan Among 2,500 Leaders Joining TVK Party

Chennai, June 20: The ruling Tamilaga Vetrik Kadagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu welcomed approximately 2,500 leaders and activists from various political parties into its fold during a ceremony held at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai, on Saturday. Among the new members was former AIADMK minister Gomathi Srinivasan.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vijay, TVK recently achieved a significant milestone by winning 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking its first time in power. Since then, the party has been actively expanding its organizational reach.

During the event, Gomathi Srinivasan formally joined TVK in the presence of senior leaders. Notable figures such as film director R.V. Udayakumar and actor-politician Mansoor Ali Khan, who were previously associated with AIADMK, also joined the party.

TVK’s General Secretary and Minister N. Anand, along with Ministers Sengottaiyan, Aadhav Arjun, and Venkataramanan, were present at the membership ceremony. Minister Aadhav Arjun welcomed the new members, assuring them that the party would provide them with due respect and opportunities for advancement.

Several former legislators also joined TVK, including K.K. Shivasamy (Aruppukottai), M.G.M. Subramani (Thiruvaiyaru), Shanti Ramu (Kunnur), and Veerapandian (Chengam).

Additionally, former DMK youth wing officials, Venkatesan, former chairman of Valasaravakkam Municipality E.C. Shekhar, former TADCO chairman Kalaiselvan, and businessman V.G.P. Rajkumar also became members of TVK.

Political analysts believe that the continuous influx of leaders from opposition parties into TVK signifies the party’s growing influence. Previously, four former AIADMK legislators had resigned to join Vijay’s party.

During the assembly election campaign, Chief Minister Vijay assured the phased implementation of electoral promises. Since taking office, the government has announced initiatives such as providing 200 units of free electricity to eligible families and a crop loan waiver scheme for farmers.

Meanwhile, TVK MLA from Kumbam and leader of the ‘Our People’s Progress Party’ Jagannath Mishra has also merged his party with TVK. He contested the assembly elections as a candidate from the TVK alliance and won.

Political experts suggest that the ongoing influx of leaders and mergers will strengthen TVK’s organizational power and its foothold in state politics.
