Samhal, August 27: Uttar Pradesh Minister Gulab Devi has responded to claims made by Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav regarding women’s safety, equality, and welfare. She criticized Yadav’s press conference as laughable, raising serious questions about women’s safety during his tenure. According to Gulab Devi, women in Uttar Pradesh are now more secure and self-reliant compared to the past, thanks to various initiatives implemented by the BJP government.
Gulab Devi emphasized that while Akhilesh Yadav speaks about women’s safety and equality today, he should reflect on his own administration. During his tenure, the presence of anti-social elements near schools made it difficult for girls to attend classes due to inappropriate comments. She also referenced a controversial remark made by a cleric about Akhilesh Yadav’s wife, Dimple Yadav, to underscore the lack of respect for women during that period.
The Minister stated that under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government, law and order have improved significantly, allowing women to move freely even at night. The government’s clear message is that strict action will be taken against anyone who misbehaves with women. She highlighted various government schemes aimed at empowering women economically and socially, asserting that women are becoming stronger in all aspects.
Regarding Akhilesh Yadav’s promise of free bus travel for women if the Samajwadi Party returns to power, Gulab Devi pointed out that this is not a new initiative. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already announced free travel for women over 60 years of age on government buses.
Gulab Devi dismissed the Samajwadi Party’s promise of providing ₹40,000 annually to women as a “colorful dream,” stating that the public understands the difference between dreams and reality. She recalled the infamous guest house incident during the Samajwadi Party’s rule, suggesting that those who speak about women’s respect should reflect on their past. The BJP government has focused on granting ownership rights to women in housing schemes, which she described as a significant step towards women’s empowerment.
She noted that pensions for the elderly, widows, and disabled individuals have been increased from ₹300 to ₹1,000 per month. Additionally, she mentioned the rise in honorariums for cooks providing meals in schools. Under the Ayushman scheme, eligible families can access treatment worth up to ₹5 lakh annually, and financial assistance is available for emergencies.
Gulab Devi pointed out that recent high school and intermediate exam results showed outstanding performance by girls. She claimed that the government is recognizing and encouraging meritorious students. The aim, she stated, is not just to make women beneficiaries of schemes but to empower them with rights in education, employment, health, property, and public life. She concluded by saying that trust in the government’s initiatives among women has increased, and they stand firmly with the BJP government.
