New Delhi, April 2: The Patparganj Industrial Area (PIA) police apprehended a criminal near ISBT Road Number 56, Anand Vihar. The suspect was found in possession of an illegal button knife and a stolen mobile phone.
In light of ongoing efforts to curb street crimes and illegal weapon possession, the PIA police were instructed to enhance surveillance and conduct active patrols in sensitive areas. A special police team was deployed under the leadership of the PIA police station’s SHO and the supervision of ACP Tilak Chandra Bisht from Madhubihar.
On March 31, around 1:50 PM, HC Sachin and Constable Sandeep were on regular patrol duty near the exit gate on ISBT Road Number 56. They noticed a young man behaving suspiciously. Upon seeing the police, he panicked and attempted to flee towards Ghazipur. Sensing his suspicious behavior, the police team acted swiftly and apprehended him after a short chase.
Upon searching the suspect, the police recovered an illegal button knife and a mobile phone. During questioning, the accused identified himself as Deepak, also known as Haklana, a 28-year-old resident of the Mahatma Gandhi Camp slum in Shashi Garden, Delhi.
During the interrogation, Deepak admitted that he was wandering in the area with the intent to commit theft or robbery using the knife. Thanks to the vigilant patrol and timely intervention of the police team, a potential crime was successfully averted. A case has been registered against him under Section 25 of the Arms Act at the PIA police station. The suspect has been arrested, and further investigations are underway, including verification of the recovered mobile phone and his possible involvement in other cases.
Deepak is a habitual offender and has a history of substance abuse (smack, drugs, and alcohol). He already has eight cases registered against him at the Patparganj Industrial Area, Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Pandav Nagar police stations. The Pandav Nagar police have declared him a bad character.
