
Ballia, April 2: A confrontation between police and thieves occurred in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh. Officers from the Sahatwar and Bansdih police stations arrested seven suspects involved in electric wire theft following the encounter. During the clash, two suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and were hospitalized for treatment.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Shukla, a police team was conducting checks in the village of Akbarpur early Thursday morning. They spotted two vehicles approaching from the direction of Samarthpar and signaled them to stop. Instead, the vehicles attempted to reverse.
As police set up a blockade, the criminals opened fire on the officers. In response, police returned fire, injuring Tinku Shah and Shameem Ansari in the right leg. Meanwhile, five fleeing suspects were apprehended. They were identified as Arvind Yadav (from Ghazipur), Mannu Kumar Sah, Rohan Kumar Pandey, Firoz Khan, and Abhishek alias Anshu Gaud.
During initial questioning, the suspects revealed that they had stolen electrical wires and equipment from a transformer on the nights of March 26-27 and March 30 in Akbarpur and the village of Dudhola.
The injured suspects were admitted to Sadar Hospital for medical care. Police recovered two 315 bore pistols, two spent cartridges, and two vehicles from the scene. One pickup truck contained the stolen electric wires, while the other held tools used for the theft. Knives were also found on the remaining five suspects. The Additional Superintendent of Police stated that the gang would cut electric wires whenever power outages occurred. The police team responsible for the arrests has been rewarded with a ₹25,000 cash prize announced by the Superintendent of Police. Further investigations are ongoing.
