Noida, April 2: The police in Noida have dismantled an organized gang involved in blackmail and robbery through online dating apps. Four notorious suspects have been arrested, with valuable jewelry and cash recovered from their possession.
According to police reports, the arrests were made on April 2 with the assistance of local intelligence. The suspects, identified as Sushank Singh, Pradeep, Rohit Kumar, and Vasu, hail from different states and districts but were conducting criminal activities in the Delhi-NCR region. Authorities seized a diamond solitaire, a gold chain, and ₹14,530 in cash from the accused.
Investigations revealed that the gang operated with cunning tactics. They rented rooms using fake Aadhaar cards to conceal their true identities. The suspects created fraudulent profiles on various online dating apps to lure victims. Once a target fell into their trap, they would invite them to the rented room. Upon arrival, the victims were caught in compromising situations, and the gang recorded photos or videos.
The victims were then blackmailed with threats of making the recordings public or sending them to their families. Out of fear and shame, many victims were coerced into paying cash. Additionally, the gang would steal any gold or silver jewelry the victims had on them.
Police stated that this gang operated in a highly organized manner. They used fake identities, stolen mobile phones, and SIM cards to carry out these crimes for an extended period. Various charges have been filed against them, including blackmail, extortion, and robbery.
The police are now investigating the suspects’ criminal history and any other potential incidents. They have also urged the public to exercise caution when using online dating apps and to thoroughly verify the identity of anyone they plan to meet.
