Ranchi, April 2: A disturbing case has emerged in the Lalpur police area of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, involving allegations of rape and coercion for forced religious conversion. Following a complaint from the victim, police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against two individuals.
The police plan to record the victim’s statement in court, after which a medical examination will be conducted. According to the FIR, the victim was previously employed as a manager at a salon in Odisha. She was lured to Ranchi with the promise of a higher salary and was hired as a beautician at a salon located in Dangra Toli.
The victim claims that salon operators Soheb Malik and Sohail Khan deceived her. She alleges that in January, she was held captive in an apartment and raped. Following the incident, the accused reportedly pressured her to convert her religion. Given the seriousness of the situation, the Lalpur police have initiated swift action.
The station in charge revealed that preliminary investigations indicate the victim is owed approximately ₹164,000 by the salon operator. The police are also exploring whether financial disputes or job-related issues were used as a cover for the exploitation of the young woman.
According to the Lalpur police, clarity on the situation will emerge once the statement under Section 164 is recorded in court. The salon operator is currently in custody and being interrogated. Authorities are meticulously examining all technical and eyewitness evidence related to the case.
