Ahmedabad, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Ahmedabad customs officials have intercepted a significant drug haul at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. On September 4, they seized 5,519.7 grams of suspected hydroponic marijuana from a passenger arriving from Ho Chi Minh City. The illegal substance was cleverly concealed within food packaging in the traveler’s hand luggage.
The seizure was made possible through the efforts of the airport’s Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), which conducted profiling and an X-ray examination of the passenger’s belongings. The individual, a resident of Mumbai, arrived on VietJet Air flight VJ-1805.
During a thorough inspection of the hand baggage, officials discovered the green substance wrapped in aluminum foil, packed into 24 packets. According to customs officials, these packets were hidden inside three cookie boxes and a cereal box.
Preliminary tests using the NDPS field testing kit confirmed the presence of marijuana. The total weight of the confiscated substance was 5,519.7 grams. Customs officials have seized the drugs under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 and arrested the passenger. An investigation is ongoing.
This incident marks the third seizure of hydroponic marijuana at Ahmedabad Airport within just four days. On September 2, customs seized 6,073.7 grams of the same substance from another passenger on the same flight. That marijuana was hidden in a specially designed cavity within a trolley bag.
The following day, customs apprehended a couple from Vadodara arriving from Bangkok, seizing 1,928 grams of hydroponic marijuana concealed in their luggage. Both passengers were also arrested.
Authorities continue to investigate the origins of the drugs and the circumstances surrounding their attempted entry into the country.
