New York, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : India reaffirmed its commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons during a high-level session at the United Nations in New York on September 29. Siby George, Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, delivered India’s statement on the occasion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted George’s remarks on social media platform X, stating, “Secretary (West) Siby George presented India’s statement at the high-level session marking the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. India is committed to achieving a nuclear-free world through universal, non-discriminatory, and verifiable nuclear disarmament.”
Earlier, during a high-level meeting commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA) at the UN General Assembly, George reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance.
The Ministry noted, “Secretary (West) Siby George delivered India’s statement at the high-level meeting on the 25th anniversary of the DDPA during the 81st session of the UNGA. He reaffirmed India’s steadfast commitment to fighting racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance while promoting equality and dignity for all.”
George emphasized the need for concrete efforts at both national and international levels to ensure the full and effective implementation of the DDPA. Last week, he also stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation for the return of cultural heritage and properties at a high-level side event of the UNGA.
He called for enhanced global collaboration to return cultural properties and heritage to their original countries and communities, ensuring their restoration. This event was co-hosted by Ghana, Germany, and France.
