New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has become the focal point of a political clash between Congress and the BJP. The controversy ignited during a Congress Working Committee meeting when Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge referred to Kumar as a “puppet.” This statement has now spilled onto the streets, where Congress workers have allegedly vandalized Kumar’s residence with the word “thief.”
In response, the BJP has condemned this action as a direct attack on a constitutional position. BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok questioned whether Congress, fearing electoral defeat, aims to undermine the Election Commission. He emphasized that the government’s stance on terrorism is clear: there is no distinction between “good” and “bad” terrorism. Countries that harbor terrorists are equally culpable, he stated.
Alok criticized Congress for its theatrics, suggesting that their actions are leading to their own downfall. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Tuhin A. Sinha remarked that targeting Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner, indicates Congress’s desperation. He noted that Congress has a history of dividing Hindus and highlighted recent comments by Congress leader Revant Reddy, who controversially stated that “Congress means Muslims, and Muslims mean Congress.” Sinha asserted that Reddy has no right to comment on Hindu beliefs.
Sinha further recalled the widespread outcry during the Bofors scandal, where the slogan “Every street is noisy; the Prime Minister at that time is a thief” resonated across the nation. He lamented that Congress, now out of power for 12 years, has deteriorated to a state akin to a fish out of water.
This ongoing feud underscores the escalating tensions as both parties prepare for the upcoming elections.
