Congress Protests for FIR in Pellet Gun Incident, Harish Rawat Defends Justice Demands

New Delhi, August 22: Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, staged a protest outside the Parliament Street police station, demanding the registration of an FIR related to the pellet gun incident that severely injured a young man named Sahil during protests on July 20 at Jantar Mantar.

The Congress party claims that Sahil has suffered significant damage to his eye, impacting his life drastically. Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat responded to accusations from the BJP regarding chaos, stating that demanding justice should not be considered disorderly. He emphasized that the injured individual approached the police seeking justice after sustaining injuries from a pellet gun.

Sahil has previously requested the police to file an FIR, but his complaint has not yet been registered. Rawat mentioned that when Sahil reached out to Rahul Gandhi, the opposition leader urged the police to file the FIR. The lack of action from the police led to the protest by Gandhi and other Congress leaders. He asserted that citizens have the right to demand an FIR, which should initiate the investigation process. According to legal standards and prior court directives, action must be taken upon receiving a complaint, and investigations can proceed even after the FIR is filed. The party plans to intensify its movement, declaring this a call to action against injustice.

In Pune, Congress MP Pawan Khera also criticized the central government over the pellet gun incident, demanding not only the FIR but also the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. Khera noted that Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other Congress leaders had been protesting for hours despite the sweltering heat, advocating for justice for Sahil. Previously, Rahul Gandhi had brought Sahil to the media’s attention to discuss his pellet gun injuries. Additional evidence, including alleged pellets and a medical report from AIIMS, has also been presented by the victim.

Khera alleged that the police claimed to be under “pressure from above.” He questioned the source of this pressure and demanded clarity from the Home Minister regarding who ordered the use of pellet guns against protesters in Delhi. He insisted that instead of sending other leaders to defend the Prime Minister or Home Minister, the responsible individuals should address the public directly. Khera further questioned why the FIR has not been filed and who is exerting pressure on the police.
