Siliguri, August 22: Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting in Siliguri, West Bengal, on August 21, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and senior officials. The focus was on law and order, public welfare, and administrative reforms. During the meeting, Shah reviewed four new helpline services launched by the state government and encouraged citizens to utilize them.
Shah shared details on the social media platform X, discussing the helpline system established for complaints related to cut money, syndicate rule, illegal road/toll tax collection, and illicit liquor. The helplines include 155334 for cut money, 155335 for syndicate-related complaints, 155337 for illegal road and toll tax collection, and 155339 for reporting illegal liquor.
He emphasized that citizens can directly register their complaints through these toll-free numbers, ensuring prompt action on each issue. Shah claimed this initiative would relieve the people of West Bengal from the clutches of illegal extortion and collection.
The Home Minister noted that during Mamata Banerjee’s tenure, the public suffered from cut money, syndicate rule, and illegal collections for years. He asserted that the BJP government is working to eliminate this entire system.
The meeting also reviewed various issues related to security, law and order, and public welfare in the state. Shah mentioned that security camps established in areas affected by left-wing extremism are being transformed into public service centers. Additionally, efforts are being made to monitor major cases of electoral violence, promote drug rehabilitation, and curb cross-border smuggling of animals, weapons, and counterfeit currency.
He stated that these initiatives would play a crucial role in strengthening good governance and security in West Bengal in the future.
During his visit, Amit Shah also inaugurated an exhibition based on the new Indian Justice Code (BNS). He highlighted that the new code aims to expedite the justice process through extensive use of technology and forensics, making it timely and victim-centered.
Shah accused Mamata Banerjee of not implementing these new laws during her tenure to protect the syndicate system and an atmosphere of fear. He asserted that the BJP government has implemented the new justice code to fulfill the pledge of ‘trust, not fear.’
The Home Minister also urged those involved in the state’s judiciary, law enforcement, and police to visit the exhibition.
Additionally, Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate office building in Siliguri.
