New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : New Delhi is preparing for a shift in weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting light to moderate rainfall across the National Capital Region starting this Saturday. This change is expected to last for three days, bringing a welcome drop in maximum temperatures.
The anticipated rains and strong winds have already led to a significant improvement in air quality in Delhi-NCR, with pollution levels now falling within the ‘green zone.’ According to the IMD, temperatures on September 12 are expected to reach a maximum of 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels fluctuating between 55% and 85%.
On September 13, temperatures may rise slightly to a maximum of 32 degrees and a minimum of 26 degrees, although humidity could remain as high as 90%. Cloud cover and light rain are also expected on this day. The forecast for September 14 suggests a return to a maximum of 31 degrees and a minimum of 25 degrees, with light rain possible. By September 15, temperatures could dip to around 24 degrees, accompanied by light rainfall.
On September 16, the weather is predicted to maintain similar temperatures of 31 degrees maximum and 25 degrees minimum, with continued light rain. However, a slight improvement is anticipated on September 17, when temperatures may rise to 33 degrees, with clouds lingering but reduced chances of rain.
The positive effects of rainfall and favorable weather conditions on air quality are evident. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) reports that most areas in the capital are experiencing air quality classified as ‘satisfactory’ to ‘good.’ Specific readings include an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 98 in Ashok Vihar, 87 in Alipur, and 83 in Anand Vihar. The Commonwealth Sports Complex recorded an AQI of 82, while the CRRI Mathura Road saw 70. Other areas, such as Chandni Chowk, reported an AQI of 73.
In Noida, air quality remains improved, with an AQI of 70 in Sector 62 and 77 in Sector 1. However, some areas like Sector 125 and Sector 116 reported an AQI of 122, which is categorized as moderate. Gaziabad recorded the cleanest air, with AQI levels of 43 in Govindpuram, 53 in Indirapuram, and 81 in Sanjay Nagar. Meanwhile, the AQI in Loni reached 113, also falling into the moderate category.
