New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The 18th BRICS Summit officially commenced today in New Delhi, hosted at the Bharat Mandapam. This significant event, which runs through Sunday, will see leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, as well as invited outreach nations, come together to discuss pressing global issues.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this year’s theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” aims to foster dialogue on mutual interests and strengthen collaboration within BRICS on shared priorities.
Throughout India’s presidency, over 350 meetings and high-level events have taken place across more than 25 cities, focusing on three main pillars: political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. These initiatives have been designed to enhance practical outcomes and promote development-oriented results within BRICS cooperation.
The Ministry highlighted that India is a founding member of BRICS and has previously held the presidency in 2012, 2016, and 2021. India assumed the presidency again on January 1, 2026, marking a significant milestone as BRICS celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
An official statement noted that the BRICS logo for India’s presidency symbolizes a blend of tradition and modernity. Its petals reflect the vibrant colors of BRICS member nations, representing their collective strength and unity. The central “Namaste” gesture embodies India’s warmth, respect, and spirit of harmonious cooperation.
BRICS comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Partner countries include Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
The collaboration within BRICS continues to grow, addressing global challenges such as the fight against terrorism, climate change, food and energy security, the global economic landscape, telecommunications, agriculture, labor and employment, international financial frameworks, trade, and the World Trade Organization.
