New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The 18th BRICS Summit, taking place at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, has welcomed foreign guests who are visibly pleased with India’s hospitality. Thembisa Jimana, a member of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance and head of tourism in South Africa, stressed the significance of tourism, stating, “Tourism should not be underestimated, as it plays a vital role in the economy. All industries rely on tourism. To visit a place, one must book hotels and prepare, which is tourism. If you fall ill, that is medical tourism. Therefore, tourism contributes significantly to GDP, making it essential in forums like this.”
Jimana also addressed the topic of women’s empowerment, highlighting the influence of Madam Lebo, a prominent advocate for women’s inclusion. “We draw inspiration from her leadership. Attending this summit represents millions in South Africa who have been left behind, ensuring that women’s voices are included in global decision-making. BRICS provides a platform for women to not only be heard but to achieve tangible outcomes. Recently, we hosted a startup program by the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance, empowering top-performing entrepreneurs with awards.”
Madam Lebo, widely recognized in South Africa, refers to Lebogang (Lebo) Ramaphoko, a celebrated feminist and advocate for social justice.
Sharing his experiences, Shedrack Holo from TV BRICS Africa expressed, “Hello. My stay has been wonderful. I arrived from South Africa on September 8, and the experience has been great. The food is amazing—delicious and colorful. I especially enjoyed your tandoori chicken.”
Holo discussed the benefits of the BRICS Summit Business Forum and bilateral talks, noting, “I believe this year’s BRICS has been excellent, particularly the Business Forum I attended, which focused on opening opportunities. Ministers have been meeting throughout the year to ensure we secure BRICS nations, especially regarding agriculture. Food security is a critical goal for BRICS countries, and I feel we are making progress. The discussions among BRICS entrepreneurs were clear on the need for skill sharing in manufacturing and increasing purchases from each other.”
He added that the South African ambassador has indicated that changes are underway, reinforcing the deep relationship between South Africa and India.
