New Delhi, August 22: A significant gathering took place at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where protesters voiced their opposition to the current reservation system and the regulations set by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Demonstrators expressed frustration over being denied permission to set up tents and stages for their protest, questioning why such restrictions were imposed on them.
One protester stated, “We demand changes to the reservation system. Political interference must end. Those in need should receive support. Rural students deserve quality education to become capable doctors and engineers, ensuring a bright future for our nation.”
Another participant highlighted the contradiction of suppressing talent while advocating for a developed India. “How can we expect progress if students with lower marks are allowed to become doctors? This movement is in the national interest,” they asserted.
Protesters traveled from various regions to participate, emphasizing their need for shade from the sun during the demonstration. They lamented that while other movements receive support, their request for tents and stages was met with hostility. “Are we being denied because we are poor?” they questioned.
Another protester affirmed that they had received permission for the gathering and urged more people to join. “We must come here to demand our rights. The police should not obstruct those wishing to participate,” they insisted.
The protesters argued that the demand for reform in the reservation system should have been raised much earlier. “Reservation should only benefit those in genuine need. Poverty does not discriminate by caste. The government must understand our plea and provide reservations based on economic status, regardless of religion or caste,” they concluded.
