Lucknow, May 24: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the strengthening of the police radio department to modernize and enhance the security of the state’s police system. During a high-level review meeting held on Sunday, the Chief Minister emphasized that the confidentiality of police locations, movements, and communication activities is of utmost priority, and any possibility of technical breaches must be eliminated.
He instructed that the police radio network be empowered with cutting-edge technologies to ensure seamless communication, even in remote areas. The Chief Minister also mandated the development of a central dashboard for live monitoring of CCTV footage from all police stations, stating that this would make law enforcement oversight more effective and transparent.
Additionally, he called for strengthening the departmental structure for better supervision and monitoring. It was proposed to establish the headquarters of the DIG Radio Eastern in Azamgarh and the DIG Radio Western in Aligarh. The discussion also included verifying the character records of radio personnel through the respective district police chiefs and ensuring technical testing before declaring wireless sets as non-operational.
During the meeting, it was reported that in the last financial year, the purchase of communication equipment included 275 flat base masts, 5,322 batteries, 120 backpack sets, and other auxiliary equipment such as cables, chargers, and antennas. Under the modernization plan, 50 PA systems were also installed, resulting in a savings of approximately ₹1.23 crores through a reverse auction process.
For the financial year 2026-27, a plan was reviewed to initiate digital wireless services in 12 districts at a cost of ₹47 crores. Additionally, proposals were made for measuring devices, 5G filters for portable communication, self-supported masts for remote stations, and handheld wireless communication systems for the Lucknow Police Commissionerate.
CM Yogi also stressed the need to digitize departmental human resource management, directing that all personnel data be updated on the Human Capital Portal. He insisted that character records, leave, and other service-related tasks be fully managed digitally. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of training employees in the latest technologies, computer skills, and improving the quality of communication messages.
