New Delhi, August 21: The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has announced the arrest of eight individuals, including the main suspect, in connection with a terrorist plot against a strategic defense facility located near Moscow.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, the group allegedly planned to attack the facility using 35 FPV drones.
Last month, the FSB reported that it had thwarted a plan by Ukrainian special services to target this strategic defense facility in the Moscow region. The operation was intended to utilize 35 FPV drones equipped with powerful explosives, which were reportedly smuggled from the European Union.
The FSB stated, “The main suspect involved in this sabotage plot and his seven accomplices have been arrested under criminal investigation.” During the arrest, one accomplice reportedly resisted with weapons and was subsequently neutralized.
TASS further reported that in July, the FSB claimed to have disrupted a purported terrorist scheme orchestrated by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) aimed at the strategic facility located in a residential area of Moscow. The plan involved using 35 drones, which were allegedly smuggled into Russia through Slovakia, Poland, and Belarus, with purported assistance from European intelligence services.
According to the investigative agency, the drones were to be launched from a rented hangar, a preparation carried out by two Moldovan citizens who later fled Russia. The shipment of explosives was handed over to the main attacker, who was neutralized during the arrest.
TASS also claims that Albert Vasiliev, a dual citizen of Ukraine and the United States, known as a Ukrainian video blogger and rapper under the name ‘Keystone,’ was involved in planning the attack and coordinating among those involved.
