Quetta, August 21: Fighters from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) have claimed full control over the town of Sarnan in Balochistan’s Pishin district. According to the organization, they detonated explosives to destroy a police station during this operation.
Media reports indicate that government offices were also set ablaze, and several police officers were temporarily detained.
The Balochistan Post reported that during the attack on Thursday, BLA fighters seized weapons and ammunition from the police station before demolishing the building with explosives. They also set fire to several government offices, including the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office.
In a statement following the operation, BLA spokesperson Jiand Baloch stated, “Today, fighters from the Baloch Liberation Army have gained complete control over Sarnan in Pishin. They have taken over the police station, NADRA office, and other government buildings. Several police officers were detained but later released. After seizing a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the police station, the building was destroyed by explosives. The Baloch Liberation Army claims responsibility for this action.”
Meanwhile, prominent Baloch human rights activist Meer Yar Baloch claimed on Friday that following the Sarnan operation, Baloch fighters also captured the Kahatan police station in the Bolan area of Balochistan. They seized police records, weapons, and ammunition before setting the station on fire.
Meer shared images on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “After Sarnan, another police station has been destroyed. The Baloch Republic’s defense and security forces have taken control of the Kahatan police station in the Bolan area. After seizing police records, weapons, and ammunition, the building was set ablaze. The Pakistani army has several posts in the area but remained confined to their barracks.”
He further noted, “Baloch fighters are continuously expanding their control across various parts of the Baloch Republic, indicating a shift in the balance of power on the ground.”
Local media reported that on Thursday, Baloch fighters blocked several major highways in Balochistan, including Kalat, Mastung, Kharan, Chagai, and Washuk, seizing some commercial vehicles.
The Balochistan Post mentioned that during these blockades, Pakistani security forces were ambushed in Kalat, disrupting traffic on major highways.
Sources indicated that when Pakistani security forces were advancing towards the area in armored vehicles, they were ambushed.
This attack occurred a day after an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted Pakistani security personnel walking near cornfields in the Manguchar area of Kalat, resulting in the deaths of six Pakistani security personnel.
