Protest in Khandwa Over Alleged 4 Million Corruption in Stray Dog Sterilization

Khandwa, August 21: The alleged corruption of 4 million rupees in the Khandwa Municipal Corporation regarding the sterilization of stray dogs has sparked significant controversy. A protest was held at the Khandwa Collectorate, where several individuals, including a man wearing a dog mask, raised concerns about the misuse of funds allocated for the sterilization program. The Municipal Corporation has firmly denied these allegations, labeling them as baseless.

A young man wearing the dog mask stated, “The issue is that there is rampant corruption in the sterilization process being conducted by these people. I hope justice will be served and action will be taken against those responsible.”

Opposition leader Deepak, also known as Mullu Rathore, emphasized, “Absolutely, action should be taken. If corruption is happening in the name of dogs in this country, and there is such concern about this issue, voices are rising from across the nation, then concrete action must be taken. The system under which the government is implementing these sterilization methods needs to be changed to ensure that neither dogs nor humans face any issues.”

During a public hearing, Municipal Commissioner Priyanka Rajawat responded to the incident of a person wearing a dog mask, stating, “These allegations are completely unfounded as the sterilization work is conducted at the ABC Center. The organization running the center is selected through an online tender process.”

Meanwhile, the incident of a complainant wearing a dog mask at the public hearing has become a topic of discussion nationwide. Reactions from dog bite victims and animal lovers have been circulating on social media regarding this matter.

District Rabies Control Officer Dr. Yogesh Sharma reported, “In the last month, we had a total of 244 dog bite cases at the district hospital, which were treated with ARV injections and immunoglobulin. Over the past four years, from 2022 to 2025, approximately 12,700 cases have been treated at the district hospital with ARV injections.”
