New Delhi, June 24: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing China’s readiness to implement the significant agreements reached between the leaders of both nations.
Wang emphasized the need for both countries to enhance mutual trust, resolve misunderstandings, manage sensitive issues wisely, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and maintain the positive momentum in bilateral relations. He noted that both nations could advance their modernization goals together.
During the meeting, Wang stated that China and India should set an example in promoting unity and self-reliance among countries in the Global South.
The Chinese Ambassador to India, Shuo Feihong, shared details of the meeting on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Wang highlighted that as the two largest developing countries and significant members of the Global South, China and India can play a leading role in promoting unity and self-reliance among Global South nations. China will continue to support India’s responsibilities as the rotating chair of BRICS and work with India to strengthen BRICS cooperation.”
He further added, “China is prepared to work with India to implement the important agreements made between the leaders, enhance mutual trust, dispel doubts, manage sensitive issues appropriately, and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation to maintain a positive trajectory in India-China relations. This aligns with the core interests of both nations’ peoples and meets the shared expectations of the international community.”
On Monday, Wang Yi also met with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during the BRICS National Security Advisors’ meeting. Both sides reviewed recent progress in bilateral relations and acknowledged gradual advancements towards normalizing ties.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Ambassador Shuo Feihong, and other officials.
According to the statement released by the Chinese Ambassador on ‘X’, Wang Yi noted that India and China are among the world’s largest population economies. Therefore, both countries should view their relationship not only from a bilateral perspective but also from a long-term and global viewpoint.
He stated that both nations must implement the important agreements made between their leaders, advance their development and progress through cooperation, and accelerate the modernization process of the Global South.
During the meeting with Ajit Doval, Wang Yi reiterated support for India’s role as the rotating chair of BRICS and expressed China’s readiness to work with India for the development and expansion of the BRICS framework.
He concluded, “It is essential to respect each other’s core interests. Sensitive issues should be managed wisely, and the India-China border dispute should be positioned in a way that does not affect the broader relationship between the two countries. Both sides should also work towards developing a proper understanding across all sectors of society to build strong public support and a social foundation for improving bilateral relations.”
