Chandigarh, June 24: A political storm has erupted in Punjab over an alleged fake video involving Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The Congress party has demanded his resignation, while the Punjab government has dismissed these claims as a result of “cheap politics,” asserting that there is a conspiracy to tarnish the Chief Minister’s image.
Health Minister Balbir Singh responded to allegations of manipulation in the forensic report related to the video, labeling it as politically motivated. In an interview with a news agency, he stated that he would not comment further, as Chief Minister Mann had already provided clarification on the matter.
“This is a result of the opposition’s cheap politics. There is an attempt to damage the Chief Minister’s reputation among the people of Punjab,” Singh remarked.
He further noted that politically desperate leaders are launching both personal and political attacks against Mann. Singh emphasized that the state government is continuously working for the development and needs of the public. While criticism of the government’s functioning or policies is acceptable, personal attacks are reprehensible.
Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur also condemned the alleged fake video as a product of low-level politics. She remarked that the political landscape has deteriorated to the point where attempts are being made to tarnish individuals’ images. “Until the complete truth comes out, we will consider this a controversial issue,” she added.
On the other hand, Congress MP Amar Singh sharply criticized the situation surrounding the alleged fake video. He stated that Mann now has no option but to resign. Singh accused the government of attempting to defame the Sri Akal Takht Sahib and influence related reports, claiming that such actions have never occurred in Sikh history.
Additionally, he targeted the state government regarding law and order in Punjab, alleging an increase in gangster activities and extortion, as well as daylight murders. He also claimed that government officials are being misused. Amar Singh insisted that the Chief Minister must respond to these issues, emphasizing that resignation is the only option left for him. He asserted that such incidents have never happened in Punjab’s history.
