Indian Mangoes Strengthen International Ties with Diplomatic Gift Boxes

New Delhi, June 24: Nitin Naveen, the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has sent special gift boxes of Indian mangoes to diplomats from 82 countries. He highlighted the mango as a symbol of hospitality, friendship, and India’s rich agricultural heritage. This initiative aims to showcase India’s agricultural legacy and cultural identity while strengthening international relations.

The gift boxes, specially prepared for the diplomats stationed in New Delhi, contained four of India’s most renowned mango varieties: Kesar, Dasheri, Banganapalli, and Langra. Each variety is celebrated for its unique flavor, aroma, and regional significance. This initiative seeks to promote India’s diverse horticultural traditions and its most beloved fruit on a global stage.

Along with the mangoes, Nitin Naveen included a personal message for the diplomats. In his message, he conveyed best wishes and emphasized the importance of mangoes in Indian culture, describing them as symbols of hospitality, friendship, and the country’s prosperous agricultural practices.

This initiative is viewed as a form of cultural diplomacy, aiming to enhance goodwill through one of India’s most recognizable fruits. It seeks to strengthen ties with the international diplomatic community present in the capital.

India is one of the largest producers of mangoes in the world. Varieties like Kesar, Dasheri, Banganapalli, and Langra are highly favored not only in India but also abroad due to their exceptional taste and quality.

Kesar Mango: Grown at the foothills of the Girnar mountains in Gujarat, this medium-sized mango is famous for its bright saffron pulp and incredibly sweet, fragrant juice. The GI tag awarded in 2011 recognized and protected its unique regional flavor. Authentic Kesar mangoes are identified by their light red hue and exquisite sweetness.

Malihabadi Dasheri: This mango from Malihabad, Uttar Pradesh, is known for its thin skin, fiberless pulp, and honey-like sweetness. The GI tag awarded in 2009 helped preserve its historical cultivation and distinctive aroma.

Banganapalli: This famous variety from Andhra Pradesh is large and oval-shaped. Its golden-yellow skin is nearly blemish-free, and its pulp is thick, firm, and fiberless, maintaining its shape when cut. The GI tag received in 2017 recognized it as a premium mango variety from South India, safeguarding its unique texture, large size, and long-lasting freshness.

Banarasi Langra: Associated with Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, this unique mango variety remains green on the outside even when ripe. Its pulp is lemon-yellow, extremely juicy, and has a sweet-tart flavor. Its strong and long-lasting aroma makes it special. The GI tag awarded in 2023 officially linked its unique taste and identity to the Banaras region.
