Ajit Pawars Family Cleared in ₹25,000 Crore Scam by Mumbai Court

Mumbai, February 28: A special court in Mumbai has made a significant ruling in the ₹25,000 crore Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam case. The court accepted the closure report submitted by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), granting a clean chit to the late leader Ajit Pawar and several family members.

According to the EOW report, no criminal charges can be filed against Ajit Pawar, his wife Sunetra Pawar, and their nephew Rohit Pawar. Consequently, all three have received a clean chit from the court.

The report indicated that there were no legal grounds for action regarding the irregularities that occurred within the bank and its subsidiaries. Additionally, the court dismissed a petition challenging the closure report filed by activist Anna Hazare and others.

The case revolved around the state’s sugar cooperatives, spinning mills, and other entities. Allegations suggested that these organizations borrowed money from district and cooperative banks, leading to a loss of approximately ₹25,000 crores to the state treasury between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2017, due to banking irregularities. Several prominent political figures were implicated in these accusations.

After a thorough investigation, the EOW concluded that there was insufficient evidence to support criminal charges. They filed a ‘C-summary’ report, clearly stating that no case could be made against Ajit Pawar and his family. The court accepted this finding, resulting in the clean chit for the late leader, his wife, and nephew.

Ajit Pawar, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a prominent politician, tragically passed away in a plane crash on January 28, 2026. He was en route from Mumbai to his home constituency in Baramati when his chartered aircraft (Learjet 45) crashed during landing at Baramati Airport. The devastating incident claimed the lives of Ajit Pawar and five others on board.
