Bareilly, July 2: Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi has expressed that improved relations between neighboring countries are beneficial for both nations and the entire region. He also voiced concerns regarding negligence in the registration of waqf properties.
In response to calls from several citizens of India and Pakistan to restore dialogue, Maulana Shahabuddin stated that many intellectuals, bureaucrats, and politicians from India have written to both prime ministers advocating for better relations. He emphasized that positive relationships with neighbors create a better atmosphere, which is essential for coexistence.
He noted that Pakistan and Bangladesh have historically been part of undivided India. Therefore, enhancing ties with neighboring countries would be advantageous for all. He referenced former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who initiated bus services and visa arrangements. If these services resume, he believes the existing tensions between India and Pakistan could dissipate, leading to improved relations.
Regarding recent events in Iran, Maulana Shahabuddin mentioned that following the martyrdom of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his funeral had not yet taken place. Iran has invited heads of state from various countries for the upcoming burial. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an invitation but has designated Bihar Governor Ata Hasnain and Assistant Foreign Minister to represent him. Maulana Shahabuddin remarked that this was an excellent opportunity for the Prime Minister to enhance relations with Iran.
He further stated that India and Iran have maintained a long-standing friendship. During the 40-day war, Iran allowed Indian ships to pass, preventing a crisis in oil, petrol, and gas supplies in India.
On the demand to extend the registration deadline for waqf properties, Maulana Shahabuddin pointed out that after the Indian government passed the waqf amendment bill, it launched the ‘Umeed’ portal to digitize waqf properties and locate those across the country. However, the registration deadline has passed, and the extended timeframe provided by the tribunal has also lapsed. He criticized the public’s negligence, as many failed to register their waqf properties on the portal, risking government control over these assets.
