Agnimitra Paul Accuses Mamata Banerjee of Vote Bank Politics over Warehouse Fire

Kolkata: BJP leader Agnimitra Paul has strongly criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the wake of the devastating fire at a warehouse in Anandpur. She alleged that Mamata Banerjee engages only in vote bank politics and shows no remorse for the loss of lives. According to her, if there was any regret, the owner of the warehouse would have already been arrested.

In an interaction, Agnimitra Paul questioned the arrest of only the deputy manager and manager, stating that it is pointless unless the owner is taken into custody. She pointed out that the deputy manager failed to secure a fire license, and the momo factory near the warehouse did not have one either, a fact confirmed by the Fire Department’s Director General. She questioned how permission was granted to operate the warehouse under these conditions and held the owner responsible for the tragedy. Despite five days passing since the incident, the owner has not been arrested.

The BJP leader further alleged that the delay in arresting the owner indicates that large sums of money are being paid to the TMC and the I-PAC office. She claimed that illegal activities are rampant across Bengal, with TMC collecting money under the guise of legality. She also criticised the compensation of only ₹10 lakh given to the victims’ families despite the high death toll, accusing Mamata Banerjee of prioritising vote bank politics over justice.

Agnimitra Paul added that the Chief Minister is spreading politics of hatred throughout the state, and the people of West Bengal will give her a strong response.

Referring to suspended TMC leader Humayun Kabir, she said that whether it is Kabir or CPI(M) leader Mohammad Salim, both act as the ‘B-team’ of TMC, working for Mamata Banerjee. She noted that their ideologies, policies, and principles are alike. She recalled that during 34 years of Left rule, Bangladeshi immigrants were brought into West Bengal for voting, which Mamata had opposed when she was not Chief Minister. However, she alleged that now as Chief Minister, Mamata needs those votes and has united all for Muslim votes.
