Hyderabad, March 13: More than 500,000 students are set to participate in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) public examinations starting Saturday in Telangana. The School Education Department has made extensive arrangements for the smooth conduct of the exams at 2,676 centers across the state.
A total of 528,239 students have registered for the exams, which will continue until April 16. The examinations will begin at 9:30 AM, but the board has advised students to arrive at their centers by 8:30 AM. An additional five minutes has been allocated for entry into the examination centers.
Students and their parents have been instructed to visit the assigned centers in advance to familiarize themselves with the location and ensure timely arrival on exam day.
The board has dispatched hall tickets to the respective schools, and officials have stated that these tickets can also be downloaded from the official website.
To monitor the smooth conduct of the exams and curb any unfair practices, 144 flying squads will be deployed. Candidates are prohibited from bringing any devices such as mobile phones, calculators, or smartwatches into the examination centers. Arrangements will be made for the secure and free deposit of personal belongings and electronic devices at the entrance of the centers.
This year’s SSC exams will span an unprecedented 33 days, scheduled from March 14 to April 16. This extended duration has sparked debates within the academic community.
In contrast to previous years when exams were completed within 10-12 days, the board has provided more intervals between examination papers this time. There will be a three-day gap between the first and second language exams, a five-day gap between Science Part-2 and Social Studies, and four days between most other exams, aligning with patterns adopted by CBSE and other boards.
While student unions have criticized this schedule as unscientific, and school management has expressed concerns about the pressure on students, the education department defends it as a measure to reduce stress and improve outcomes.
Telangana’s Governor, Shiv Pratap Shukla, has extended his best wishes to the students taking the SSC exams. He encouraged them to approach the exams with confidence and a positive mindset, viewing the experience as an opportunity to express their learning rather than a source of stress.
He emphasized the importance of self-confidence, advising students to remain calm, manage their time wisely, and focus on performing their best. The role of parents and teachers in supporting students was also acknowledged, and he wished all candidates success in their academic journeys.
Leaders from various political parties have also conveyed their best wishes to the students.
