New Delhi, June 16: A significant meeting chaired by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah took place on Tuesday in New Delhi. The meeting focused on the long-pending “Kishau Multi-Purpose Dam Project” aimed at rejuvenating the Yamuna River. Following Amit Shah’s initiative, the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan have agreed to a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of the Kishau project.
Once the memorandum is finalized, the Kishau project will be presented to the Union Cabinet for approval.
The meeting included key figures such as Union Minister of Power Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhu, and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami. Additionally, senior officials from the Home Ministry, Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of Jal Shakti were present.
It was decided that 90% of the funding for the water component of the Kishau Multi-Purpose Dam Project will be provided by the central government, while the remaining 10% will be shared among the six states involved.
In exchange for sharing the cost of the power component allocated to Himachal Pradesh, an agreement was reached to supply water from Himachal Pradesh to Delhi and Rajasthan. This decision marks a significant step towards ensuring a clean and pure Yamuna, thereby increasing the flow of clean water in the river.
Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Home Minister Amit Shah. On the social media platform X, Dhami mentioned that he discussed various important topics related to the development and welfare of the state during his meeting with Shah.
