New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : On September 11, 2026, the United States marked the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, with U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gore paying tribute to the victims. He emphasized that America remains steadfast in its fight against terrorism.
Across the globe, individuals are remembering the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the tragic events of 2001, which unfolded in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Gore took to social media platform X to express his sentiments, stating, “Even after 25 years, we remember the innocent lives lost on 9/11. Our prayers are with their families. We will never forget. We will always stand against terrorism.”
On that fateful day, 19 terrorists affiliated with Al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes. Two of these planes were crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. A third plane was used to attack the Pentagon in Virginia, while passengers on the fourth flight bravely confronted the hijackers. This struggle resulted in the plane crashing into a field in Pennsylvania, preventing it from reaching its intended target in Washington, D.C.
In recognition of the anniversary, President Donald Trump declared September 11 as Patriot Day. In a statement from the White House, he reflected on the horrors of that day, noting that a whole generation of Americans now exists who have no direct memory of the events.
Trump emphasized the importance of remembering the victims and the day itself, stating, “As time passes, the memory of that day should never fade from our national consciousness. Amid the ashes at Ground Zero, we pledged to ‘never forget,’ a commitment that must live on in every American’s heart, in every classroom, and in every community.”
He also honored the bravery of the passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93, particularly Todd Beamer and the other 39 individuals who sacrificed their lives in an attempt to regain control of the aircraft. Additionally, he recognized the efforts of first responders, including police officers, firefighters, and volunteers who participated in the rescue and recovery operations in New York City, where nearly 100 emergency agencies worked tirelessly.
