UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres Arrives in New Delhi for BRICS Summit

New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in New Delhi to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, hosted by India. He was warmly welcomed at the airport by Union Minister of State Dr. Sukanta Majumdar. This visit underscores the shared commitment of BRICS nations to multilateralism and global cooperation.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced Guterres’ arrival on the social media platform X, stating, “A hearty welcome to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit. This visit reaffirms BRICS countries’ deep faith in multilateralism, dialogue, and cooperation.”

According to UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, Guterres is expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his stay. This marks Guterres’ second visit to India this year and his fifth visit to the country as Secretary-General.

Earlier this year, he attended the India-AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi in February. For Guterres, whose term is now entering its final four months, this may be one of his last opportunities to meet formally or informally with leaders such as Prime Minister Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Notably, both Putin and Xi are not expected to attend the upcoming high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly later this month but will be present at the BRICS Summit.
