New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed Uruguay’s Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin in New Delhi on September 11, 2026. The meeting focused on advancing relations between the two nations, particularly in trade, connectivity, and cultural cooperation.
Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in a post on social media platform X, stating, “I was happy to welcome Uruguay’s Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin in New Delhi. Our discussions centered on strengthening India-Uruguay relations, especially on enhancing trade, mutual connectivity, and cultural collaboration. We agreed on a clear and focused roadmap to advance in these areas.”
He also acknowledged Uruguay’s support in deepening partnerships with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and MERCOSUR, the South American trade bloc. Additionally, Jaishankar noted that Uruguay had submitted its letter of endorsement for the International Solar Alliance, which was welcomed by India.
Lubetkin arrived in Delhi to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit and received a warm welcome from the Ministry of External Affairs. The ministry highlighted in another post, “We warmly welcome Uruguay’s Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin, who is representing CELAC at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.”
India and CELAC are working together to boost trade, share technological knowledge and innovation, and strengthen partnerships among Global South countries.
Earlier the same day, Jaishankar met with Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira in New Delhi. They discussed India-Brazil relations and cooperation on platforms such as the United Nations, G20, and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
During their meeting, the two ministers also deliberated on the current global political landscape and the role of BRICS 2026 in promoting dialogue and diplomacy. Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction in another post on X, saying, “It was a pleasure to meet Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira today in New Delhi as BRICS India 2026 kicks off. We discussed our bilateral relations, including enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, defense, energy, agriculture, and space. We also talked about our collaboration on various multilateral platforms, including the UN, G20, and IMO, and exchanged views on the significance of BRICS 2026 in fostering dialogue and diplomacy.”
